Scholarships

At the end of each season, Hockey Edmonton recognizes the outstanding contributions to hockey in our community at the Annual Awards Celebration. Congratulations to everyone who was nominated, and especially to those selected as recipients for the 2021-22 season.

CONGRATULATIONS, ROBERT KREWENCHUK

HISTORY OF THE AWARD: This award was first initiated by the EMHA Executive in the 1992-93 season, with the first inductees being Henry Keiser, Vern Davis, Russ Barnes and Harry Lewis. The Life Member Award recognizes an individual volunteer of the EMHA or Member Organization for dedication and service rendered to the Edmonton Minor Hockey Association's hockey program as a sincere tribute to their outstanding contribution.

CONGRATULATIONS, DALE CLARKE

HISTORY OF THE AWARD: The Vern Davis Volunteer of the Year Award was first awarded in 2006 at a roast for Vern Davis as a tribute to his 40+ years of outstanding volunteer contributions and active involvement in and leadership of minor hockey within Edmonton. As a part of his legacy, the Vern Davis Volunteer of the Year Award is annually awarded to an individual volunteer of Hockey Edmonton for their contributions. The award is presented to a volunteer who exemplifies the qualities of integrity, dignity and selflessness.

CONGRATULATIONS, SHAWN MITCHELL

HISTORY OF THE AWARD: This award was established in 2011 as a tribute to Russ Barnes, an iconic member of Edmonton's sporting community. An Eastwood neighbourhood resident, he coached and managed hockey and baseball teams and soon became the Community League President. After serving as a director of Atom hockey in the Northeast for several years, he joined the Maple Leaf Athletic Club in 1962. His duties ranged from Manager to President. Barnes also held a variety of positions over the years within the Edmonton Minor Hockey Association, including a distinguished term as President in 1980-82. The Russ Barnes Award recognizes an individual volunteer of the EMHA or Member Organization for dedication and service rendered to the Edmonton Minor Hockey Association's hockey program as a sincere tribute to their outstanding contribution.

CONGRATULATIONS, SYDNEY DUTERTE AND SHAELYN HOPKINS

HISTORY OF THE AWARD: In March of 2008, with the financial assistance of BOSTON PIZZA, Hockey Edmonton introduced the Ron Brodeur Scholarship Awards for U18 players in the Federation Program. Ron Brodeur was a devoted family man, successful businessman and member of the Boston Pizza group. Ron, a huge supporter of minor hockey, served the community enthusiastically as a coach for the Littleton Hockey League. Presented annually to two recipients, the awards carry a value of $1,250 each. The Ron Brodeur Scholarship is awarded to players based on athletic, academic and citizenship accomplishments of graduating U18 hockey players from the EFHC program. This is intended to provide financial assistance to these well-rounded student-athletes as they pursue post-secondary education.

HISTORY OF THE AWARD: The Hockey Edmonton Development Award recognizes an individual, organization or company for their efforts in the area of individual player skill development and/or the development of athlete centered programs.

CONGRATULATIONS, JOEL LENIUS

HISTORY OF THE AWARD: Since 1982, this award has been presented in each Hockey Alberta Zone to an individual or organization that has made an outstanding contribution towards Minor Hockey in Alberta.

CONGRATULATIONS, STEVE HOGLE

HISTORY OF THE AWARD: The Hockey Edmonton President's Award recognize an individual(s) or organization(s) that have provided extraordinary contribution(s) or assistance to the President.

CONGRATULATIONS, PLAYHOUSE PUBLICATIONS

HISTORY OF THE AWARD: This award was presented for the first time in 2007-08 to recognize the outstanding contribution of businesses in our community to the sport of ice hockey in Edmonton.

CONGRATULATIONS, LARRY SHABEN, MICHELLE COURVILLE, AND DAVE DUMAS

HISTORY OF THE AWARD: Since 2016, this award has recognized the extraordinary accomplishment of an individual, team, Club, District or Operating Area for their outstanding contribution to society in Edmonton in the current hockey season.

CONGRATULATIONS, SCOTT BEZUBIAK (ELITE) AND CODIE RICHARD (COMMUNITY)

HISTORY OF THE AWARD: The Michelle “Moosh” Tymchuk Manager of the Year Award will be presented for the first-time in 2022 to honour the woman fondly referred to as “everyone’s hockey mom”. Michelle graciously served as a hockey manager for more than 20 years in our hockey community. To acknowledge Michelle's legacy to hockey in Edmonton, this award recognizes two (2) individuals serving as Team Managers of Edmonton Hockey Teams for outstanding service and dedication to their respective teams during the past Hockey Season.
