Introducing the exciting new EFHL Recreational Hockey League! Get ready for a program that offers a more relaxed and flexible experience, focusing on active participation, pure enjoyment, and the opportunity to make new friends. This league builds upon the principles of the previous Recreational League managed by Hockey Edmonton but with expanded age groups and the inclusion of all neighbouring Minor Hockey Associations.
The Rec Hockey League provides a refreshing non-body checking alternative to the traditional mainstream hockey model. While body contact is allowed, it follows the same guidelines as U9, U11, U13, and Female divisions, resembling the non-body checking tiers of the competitive divisions in the EFHL. Additionally, there are no practices, just games.
Join us for a fantastic time on the ice, where having fun and building connections are top priorities. It's all about embracing the joy of the game in a welcoming and inclusive environment.
There are six age categories: U9, U11, U13, U15, U18, and U21. Registration is open to all players in the Edmonton area, including all Districts, Operating Areas, and KC Parishes. So if you're in the YEG neighborhood, you're invited to join us! If you live in a community outside Edmonton, scroll down for details on how to enroll with your Minor Hockey Association.
The registration fee is $500.00, and it covers all the fantastic experiences awaiting your child in our league.
Important note: If your child has played organized hockey before in the city of Edmonton, please reach out to Hockey Edmonton at office@hockeyedmonton.ca with their name and birthdate. Hockey Edmonton will assist with the transfer process, ensuring a seamless registration for your child. Once the transfer is completed, the player can register in Spordle using the registration link above.
Are you new to hockey and ready to obtain a Hockey Canada number for your player? Here are the steps:
One parent/guardian must complete the Respect in Sport (RIS) Parent Course HERE. RIS is an hour-long course that costs $12.50. Upon completion of the course, a Hockey Canada number for your child will be generated. When adding your child to the course, select Hockey Edmonton as the association. The RIS course must show up on your child's Hockey Canada record before they can be added to a team.
Create a new account with Spordle HERE. Once you have an account, add your player to it.
After adding your player, you'll be able to register them directly through the Spordle Dashboard. You can also link other related members within your account (via 'Link a Member' feature). Simply search players and coaches by name and date of birth to locate and select.
During registration, you'll have to upload a copy of your child's birth certificate and a Proof of Residency (current utility bill like EPCOR or Direct Energy bill).
Now, onto the exciting part—registration! Once you've added your participants to your account, click on "Rec Hockey League Online Registration" to get started. If you're no longer in Spordle, simply click on the age division that you wish to register for.
Registration for U9:
Hockey Edmonton has stopped accepting registrations for U9 players who reside in Edmonton. As noted when registration opened, we advised parents that U9 teams will only be formed if we have enough registrations. We will be reaching out to those families who registered with options. We apologize that we are unable to host U9 teams this season.
Now, if your child is new to hockey or doesn't have the basic skating skills and knowledge of the on-ice game, we have an awesome alternative for U9 players. Check out our Learn to Play Hockey Sessions by visiting this webpage. It's a fantastic option for building essential skills. The Rec Hockey League is not a learn to skate program, so knowing the basics of skating and hockey knowledge first is essential to be able to maximize your experience!
