To Our Hockey Family,
We are facing yet another delay waiting to get back on the ice this season. The latest announcement from the provincial government means we are likely waiting to play until at least the week of January 25th (based on the premier’s assurance he will give us seven days’ notice of a ramp up in activities).
With the continued delays, there are questions posed to both Hockey Edmonton and our member associations regarding registration fees and the potential of refunds. We are aware of the situation and are actively working to ensure families are treated fairly.
Hockey fees are paid directly to your member association, not Hockey Edmonton; therefore, any potential refunds will come directly from your home association. Those organizations, in turn, are talking with us regarding our fees and those that come from Hockey Alberta.
We are working with all our partners to provide you details around potential refunds as soon as possible. At this point, we can say:
The registration fees for minor hockey are allocated to cover several expenses associated with operating a minor hockey association. Some of these are variable expenses that may be able to be partially recovered. Other expenses are fixed and not recoverable.
Both Hockey Edmonton and the associations may have incurred additional COVID-19 related expenses to operate programs this season. The same groups may have also experienced some cost savings in various areas due to COVID-19 related adjustments.
We hope this note provides you some understanding and appreciation of how the programs are managed. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we manage this process.
Sincerely,
Steve
