Elite Showcase Ready to Rock this Week!
We are ramping up for a huge event in the Alberta Elite Hockey League calendar this coming week! The Elite Showcase for U18 AAA and U16 AAA will feature about 700 players from across the province converging on the Terwillegar Rec Centre for 55 games over the course of four days, beginning Thursday, December 2.
The players will be competing for important points in their respective AEHL standings. But they also know this is their last chance to show scouts what they have before the Western Hockey League Prospects Draft the following Thursday (the WHL is staging two drafts this year due to losing one last season to the pandemic). In addition to scouts being on hand and watching via HockeyTV, the WHL chose to sponsor the event and will be doing player presentations throughout the day Saturday. Hockey Edmonton will record one of the sessions to share with players who cannot get to the presentations Saturday.
While we there will be tons of action on the ice, there is also lots of activities off the ice. Our 50-50 for Day 1 is already up and running and there will be a silent auction table where you could score all sorts of cool prizes, such as four loge tickets to the Edmonton Oilers game against the Minnesota Wild (valued at $2,200.00!)! The lucky winner of that prize will have the opportunity to see Edmonton product and Wild captain Jared Spurgeon leading his team onto the ice!
At the Showcase, families and fans can get photos of their favourite players in action through MVP Photography.
Finally, we are always aware of the less fortunate and to that end we’re encouraging fans to bring a donation for the Food Bank. Any proceeds from the tournament will be shared between the Food Bank and minor hockey.
If time permits between games, we encourage everyone to take time to explore Alberta's capital city and it's amazing river valley, fantastic cuisine and so much more!
The action starts Thursday at 5pm and carries through to Sunday at 5pm. You can access the entire schedule at aehl.ca. Daily Showcase passes are $10 or you can purchase a four day pass $25.
